How do I compare the original and the cleaned file?

Play these four real recordings and switch between the original and the cleaned version. The road should drop back, and the voice should stay in front. Your own upload gets the same free 30-second comparison before you pay.

Four real recordings with traffic, a street, or a car behind the voice. On the street sample, overall quality went from 1.62 to 3.28 and naturalness from 1.04 to 4.32. With a car right next to the mic, the voice scored 3.07 for naturalness, so check that one closely.

What kind of traffic noise is this page for?

Traffic is a mix: a steady road roar plus cars that come and go. Both sit under the voice of someone talking outside or near a window.

Street wash

A busy street behind an interview. In our street sample the background score went from 1.68 to 4.17.

Hear the street recording

Passing cars

A car that passes during a sentence. It drops, but a very loud pass right at the mic can leave the voice less natural.

Hear a car close to the mic

Inside a car

Engine and road noise under a call or a voice memo recorded while driving.

A window onto a road

A home office or a hotel room next to traffic. The roar sits under every word.

Why choose EraseNoise to remove traffic noise from audio

Traffic changes all the time, so a noise profile does not fit it.

No noise profile

Audacity's noise reduction is made for steady noise. EraseNoise handles noise that changes from second to second.

Real samples first

The four recordings above show what happens to street, road, and car noise, including the hardest one.

Audio or video

A recording downloads as WAV. A video downloads as MP4 with the same picture.

Why not re-record somewhere quiet?

An interview on the street happens once. A cleanup keeps the moment.

Keep the take

The guest said it once, outside. Clean the recording instead of asking again.

Thirty seconds tells you

If the voice turns thin, keep the original. If it is clearer, process the rest.

Which files can I upload?

Upload the recording straight from the phone or the camera.

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus, or FLAC

Audio files download as WAV.

MP4, MOV, M4V, or WebM

A street video downloads as MP4 with the same picture.

Where to remove traffic noise from audio

A street interview

A guest answered on a busy corner. Clean the answers and keep them.

Road noise covers a note you recorded while driving. Make it easy to hear again.

A video call by an open window

A saved call has traffic under one side. Clean the recording after the call.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove traffic noise from audio?

Upload the recording at the top of this page and compare a 30-second preview, original and cleaned. Download the full file only if the voice is clearer.

Can I remove car noise from a recording?

Yes. Engine and road noise drop like other traffic. In our first car sample the voice ended at 3.87 out of 5 for naturalness. With a car right next to the mic, it ended at 3.07.

Why does Audacity not remove traffic well?

Audacity's noise reduction learns one noise profile and removes it. Traffic changes every second, so one profile does not fit. EraseNoise does not use a profile.

Will it remove people talking on the street?

Not reliably. Other voices are speech, and EraseNoise keeps speech. Street wash and cars drop. A loud nearby conversation may stay.

How many free previews do I get, and how large can the file be?

You can hear the 30-second preview 3 times in 24 hours without an account, and 20 times in 24 hours after you sign in. The upload limit is 2 GB. The full file is billed in whole minutes, rounded up, with a minimum of 1 minute.
