How do I check a creaking chair before I pay?

Play each desk recording and switch to the cleaned take right as the chair creaks. Then upload your own file and jump to a moment when the speaker leaned back.

In the chair recording, overall quality went from 2.88 to 3.44, background from 3.50 to 4.22, and naturalness from 3.01 to 4.59. Typing and mouse clicks from the same desk are next to it. Scores are DNSMOS and NISQA predictions on a 1–5 scale for real creaking-chair and related desk recordings from the Microsoft DNS Challenge test set, processed with no hand edits.

Which chair sounds can be removed?

A chair creak is short and sits under the voice. It drops well, because the speaker is closer to the mic than the chair.

A creaking desk chair

The speaker leans back or turns while talking. The creak drops and the voice stays.

Hear the recording

A squeaking gas lift or wheels

Not tested separately. Squeaks and rolling wheels on a hard floor are short like the creak we did test.

Mouse clicks and typing from the same desk

Clicks dropped well in our tests. Typing that lands on a word is a weak case.

Remove mouse click noise

A knock on the desk or the mic stand

A bump that carries straight into the mic is louder than a creak. Check it in the preview.

Why remove chair noise with EraseNoise?

Creaks come and go through a whole session. Cutting each out takes longer than the recording.

No editing creak by creak

Upload the file once and every creak is lowered.

The voice keeps its body

In our chair sample naturalness rose from 3.01 to 4.59, so the voice did not come out thin.

Same length, same timing

Nothing is cut, so a screen recording or a video stays in sync.

What should I check where the chair creaked?

Listen to the moments the speaker moved.

A creak on a word

A creak that lands on a word can leave a trace. Check one in the preview.

Fix the chair for the next take

A drop of oil on the tilt or swapping the chair stops it at the source.

EraseNoise vs other ways to remove chair creaks

Creaks come and go, so the fix depends on how many there are.

EraseNoiseThe chair creaks through a whole sessionA creak lands right on a word
Audacity Noise ReductionRarely: creaks are too short to profileThe creaks are irregular
Cutting in an editorTwo or three creaks fall in pausesThe creaks are constant, or the screen must stay in sync

Which desk recordings can I upload?

Upload the podcast, stream, or screen recording as saved, up to 2 GB.

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus, or FLAC

A podcast track recorded at a creaky desk comes back as WAV.

MP4, MOV, M4V, or WebM

A screen recording or a webcam video downloads as MP4 with the same picture.

How to remove chair noise from audio

  1. 1

    Upload the recording

  2. 2

    Compare 30 seconds

Play the moment the chair creaked, original and cleaned, without an account.

  3. 3

    Download the WAV or MP4

Process the full session only if the creaks have faded and the voice keeps its body.

When do people remove chair noise from audio?

The host rocks in a squeaky chair through the whole episode. Clean it instead of re-recording.

The chair creaks every time the player leans in. Clean the saved VOD.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove a creaking chair from audio?

Upload the desk recording at the top and play the free 30-second preview against the original. Download the full file only if the creaks are lower and the voice still sounds natural.

How well does EraseNoise remove chair noise?

On a real recording of a creaking desk chair from the Microsoft DNS Challenge test set, EraseNoise raised DNSMOS overall quality from 2.88 to 3.44 out of 5 and the background score from 3.50 to 4.22. NISQA naturalness went from 3.01 to 4.59, so the voice kept its body after the creaks dropped.

Will EraseNoise remove typing too?

Partly. Keystrokes between words drop, but typing on top of words is a weak case: in our sample overall quality barely moved, 2.63 to 2.70.

Can EraseNoise stop a chair creaking on a live stream?

No, it cleans recordings, not a live feed. Clean the saved VOD afterwards, or use your streaming software’s noise filter while live.

How long does EraseNoise take to clean a desk recording?

Processing time depends on how long the desk recording is: as a guide, a 5-minute video takes 10 to 60 seconds. The free 30-second preview of the desk recording uses no paid minutes, so you can judge it first.

How large can a desk recording be, and how many free previews are allowed?

Up to 2 GB per file. The 30-second preview is free 3 times per 24 hours without an account, and 20 times after signing in. A full session is billed in whole minutes, rounded up, minimum 1.
