How do I check crunching before I pay?

Play the chips recording and flip between the raw and cleaned take on the loudest crunch. Then upload your own file and go to a sentence with a crunch in it.

In the chips recording, overall quality went from 2.24 to 3.12, background from 2.21 to 4.07, and naturalness from 1.86 to 3.94. Softer munching, which cleaned a little better, is next to it. Scores are DNSMOS and NISQA predictions on a 1–5 scale for real chips and related eating recordings from the Microsoft DNS Challenge test set, processed with no hand edits.

Which crunching sounds can be removed?

A crunch is sharp, loud, and close to the mic. It drops a lot, but loud crunches on a word can leave a trace.

Chips and crackers

A snack between sentences on a stream or a call. The crunch drops and the voice stays.

Hear the recording

Apples, carrots, and ice

Not tested. Hard food is as sharp as the chips we did test, so crunches in the pauses should drop the same way.

A crinkling wrapper

Packet rustle close to the mic is short and bright like a crunch.

Softer chewing

Chewing with the mouth closed is quieter. Our munching recording reached 4.62 for naturalness, against 3.94 for chips.

Why remove crunching noise with EraseNoise?

Crunches are loud peaks, so a limiter makes them quieter but keeps them. EraseNoise lowers them under the voice.

No bite-by-bite editing

Upload the file once instead of cutting every crunch.

A real sample to judge

Hear the chips recording above before you upload anything.

The timing stays

Nothing is cut, so a video stays in sync.

What should I check where the crunch was loudest?

Listen to the loudest crunch you remember.

A crunch right on a word

Some of it can stay inside the word. If it matters, re-record that line.

A slightly softer voice

Naturalness ended at 3.94 in our sample. If the voice sounds dull, turn the Noise reduction control down.

EraseNoise vs other ways to remove crunching noise

A crunch is a loud peak, so tools that only lower peaks keep it.

OptionWorks best whenFalls short when
EraseNoiseCrunches land between and under the wordsA loud crunch lands right on a word
A limiter or compressorYou only need the crunch less jarringYou need it gone, not quieter
Cutting in an editorA few crunches fall in pausesThe taste test is one long crunch
Re-recording the lineThe verdict line can be said againThe first reaction is the point of the video

Which snack and stream recordings can I upload?

Upload the taste test, stream, or call unedited, up to 2 GB.

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus, or FLAC

A recorded call where someone snacked downloads as WAV.

MP4, MOV, M4V, or WebM

A stream VOD or a snack review downloads as MP4 with the same picture.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove crunching noise from audio?

Upload the recording with the crunching at the top and compare the free 30-second preview with the original. Download the full file only if the crunching is lower and the words are clear.

How well does EraseNoise remove crunching?

On a real recording of someone eating chips, from the Microsoft DNS Challenge test set, EraseNoise raised DNSMOS overall quality from 2.24 to 3.12 out of 5 and the background score from 2.21 to 4.07. NISQA naturalness went from 1.86 to 3.94, a little below the softer munching recording at 4.62.

Will EraseNoise remove a wrapper crinkling?

We have not tested wrapper noise. Short rustles between words are likely to drop like a crunch, but long crinkling on top of words may leave a trace, so check the preview.

Will EraseNoise keep the crunch for an ASMR video?

No. The model keeps speech and lowers everything else. For ASMR, keep the original audio.

How long does EraseNoise take to clean a snack review?

Processing time depends on how long the snack review is: as a guide, a 5-minute video takes 10 to 60 seconds. The free 30-second preview of the snack review uses no paid minutes, so you can judge it first.

How long can a snack review be, and how many previews are free?

Each file can be up to 2 GB. The free 30-second preview plays 3 times per 24 hours signed out and 20 times signed in. The full video is billed per started minute, minimum 1.
