How do I check shouting before I pay?

Play the yelling recording and listen to the speaker; shouting is speech, so expect a trade-off. Then compare the laughing case and run 30 seconds of your own file free.

Yelling is one of the weak cases of the 24 recordings we tested. The background score went from 3.29 to 4.05 and overall quality from 2.16 to 2.79, but naturalness ended at 2.44. Laughing, a slightly easier case, is next to it. Scores are DNSMOS and NISQA predictions on a 1–5 scale for real shouting and related voice recordings from the Microsoft DNS Challenge test set, processed with no hand edits.

Which shouting can be lowered?

A noise remover keeps speech, and a shout is speech. It drops most when the shouting is far from the mic and the speaker is close.

Shouting in another room

Someone yells down the hall during the take. The shout drops, and the speaker can sound less natural.

Kids playing loudly

Not tested separately. Screams without words are less like speech than shouted words, so they may drop more; check the preview.

Crowds and sports fans

Many voices at once is crowd noise.

Why try EraseNoise on shouting?

Most noise filters keep shouting completely. EraseNoise lowers distant shouting, and the preview shows how much before you pay.

Distant voices drop

In our sample the background score rose from 3.29 to 4.05.

An honest sample

The yelling recording is a weak case. You can hear the trade-off before you upload.

A strength control

Turn the Noise reduction control down to keep a fuller voice.

How do I judge the speaker after the shouting is lowered?

Judge the speaker, not the background.

A processed voice

Naturalness ended at 2.44 in our sample. If your speaker sounds thin, keep the original or turn the control down.

Words from the shouting

Clear words from the other person may stay. That is the model keeping speech.

EraseNoise vs other ways to deal with shouting

Shouting is speech, which makes it a weak case for every method.

OptionWorks best whenFalls short when
EraseNoiseThe shouting is far away and a thinner voice is acceptableThe other voice is close and clear

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus, or FLAC

A call with kids yelling in the next room downloads as WAV.

MP4, MOV, M4V, or WebM

A video with shouting in the background downloads as MP4 with the same picture.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove yelling from audio?

Upload the recording with the shouting at the top of the page and play the free 30-second preview against the original. Download the full file only if the shouting is lower and the speaker still sounds natural.

How well does EraseNoise remove yelling?

On a real recording with shouting in the background, from the Microsoft DNS Challenge test set, EraseNoise raised the DNSMOS background score from 3.29 to 4.05 out of 5 and overall quality from 2.16 to 2.79. NISQA naturalness ended at 2.44, which makes yelling one of the three weak cases among the 24 recordings we tested.

Why is shouting harder than other noise?

A shout is speech, and the model is built to keep speech. It lowers voices that are far from the mic, but it cannot tell which voice you want.

Can EraseNoise separate two people talking?

No. This tool lowers noise under one voice. It does not split a conversation into separate speakers.

How long does EraseNoise take to clean a recording with shouting?

Processing time depends on how long the recording with shouting is: as a guide, a 5-minute video takes 10 to 60 seconds. The free 30-second preview of the recording with shouting uses no paid minutes, so you can judge it first.

How large can the recording be, and how many shouting previews are free?

Files can be up to 2 GB. Without an account you get 3 free 30-second previews per 24 hours, and 20 with one. The full file is charged in whole minutes, rounded up, with a 1-minute minimum.
